It’s perhaps no surprise that the culture that invented origami is also superior when it comes to wrapping presents. Their technique is faster and, with a little practice, easier. Talk about holiday music to your ears when you’re staring down a monster pile of gifts.
This trick got buzz last year when the Internet spotted a speed wrapper in a Takashimaya department store doing it. The basics are: Start by placing your package diagonally on your paper, make three folds, and only use three pieces of tape. YouTuber BeatTheBush was so inspired that he decided to study the method and share a slower, step-by-step tutorial so we can replicate the method at home. He says it should only take 15 seconds to wrap a gift once you master it.
Watch and learn:
Fair warning: It will probably take a few practice rounds to pick it up, but it’s totally worth it when you think about all the ways you can use the extra time you’ll save — like making Christmas cookies or binge-watching your favorite holiday movies.
